About this Event

A masterclass on film directing taught by Glen Gaston.

Specifically designed for directors new to the Pro Actors Lab acting system. This TWO DAY workshop identifies the practical building blocks needed to successfully develop a strong point of view and communicate with the actor in a studio environment. We will explore exercises designed to develop “Authentic Listening” skills while identifying "Scene Icons," "Emotional Landscapes," and playing in “Present Tense.”

Using material from theatre, film, and television, "Essentials" provides directors with the opportunity to learn how to get your actors present, how to help the actor to access acute emotional landscapes and communicate script essentials to create a sense of personal connection for your actors so that they can be alive on camera.

This event is sponsored by the Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers. CSIF was founded in 1978 by a collective of twelve filmmakers who saw the growing need for film resources and film equipment on the traditional Treaty 7 territory of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut’ina, the Iyarhe Nakoda Nations, the Métis Nation (Region 3), also known as Calgary, Alberta. Now over 40 years later we are an integral part of the growing cultural community in Calgary and are excited about new collaborations and opportunities.
