Joining a CSIF Club is a great way to get involved with the community and meet like-minded people! All of our clubs are free and only open to CSIF members (non-members are allowed to attend one trial meeting prior to membership signup).
Second Tuesday of each month
7:00PM – 9:00PM @ CSIF
Club Leaders: Keri Halfacre, Tanner Bushell, and Richard McCurdy
Script Club is for all levels of screenwriters! It helps with the intricacies of screenplay writing by inspiring creativity. Each month’s meeting is typically split into two sections. The first is feedback provided for member submitted works, volunteered ahead of time from the previous month. The second is a discussion on a published script from an existing media, including but not limited to film and television. All reading material is sent out beforehand so that members have a chance to read them.
For more information please contact Keri or Tanner at scriptclub@csif.org
Last Wednesday of each month
6:30PM – 9:00PM @ CSIF
Club Leaders: Debra Popplewell and Jonathan Ainslie
Come and recreate scenes from movies and TV shows! The purpose of the club is to provide a supportive learning environment to practice the basics of film sets. No experience necessary and those experienced are welcome to come and mentor! Using the CSIF Flex Space and equipment members decide on a short 2-5 minute scene focused on fun, interesting, and challenging technical components. By coming multiple times you’re able to learn and hone skills on preparing scene details, crew roles (grip, lighting, sound, script supervisor, slate, etc.), running a camera, directing, other producing roles, editing, and acting (if you’re willing!). We strive to always make it pleasurable with a good mix of regulars and newcomers. Commitment to attending is key so the evenings run smoothly and we can ensure to build momentum each month. Register to attend on the Events page now!

New dates each month
7:00PM – 9:00PM @ CSIF
Club Leader: James Morison
“Do you fear that you are too old to make films? As I age, it has become harder for me to make films. The aches, pains and reduced energy that come with getting old limit what I can do. I still want to make films and I have been looking for ways around my limitations. This is not a problem unique to myself, so I thought I’d reach out to other filmmakers who face similar challenges. I propose to create a club here with the Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers, where older filmmakers like myself can discuss ways to work around our limitations.” – club founder James Morison

Second or third Monday of each month
6:30PM – 9:30PM @ CSIF
Club Leader: Kyle Marshall
If a single picture is worth a thousand words, then an entire movie has an infinite amount to discuss. Movies range from all time classics to obscure international indies. A short introduction happens that explains the background of the movie and some of the filmmakers responsible for it. Then the movie is screened and a discussion is led by the club leader to digest what has just been watched.
