The 18th Annual $100 Film Festival runs March 4-6, 2010
The festival showcases three days of low budget, independent, short films on film. Each night's program plays at the PLAZA Theatre (1133 Kensington Rd. NW) and starts at 7pm.
This year's festival also showcases a world premiere performance by visiting artist Amanda Dawn Christie. She will premiere her 16mm performance on Friday March 5 at the end of the shorts program. She will also run a workshop on Saturday March 6, teaching local artists her 16mm performance skills. The workshop is $100 per person, and the artists will be asked to take part in a performance at the closing ceremonies of the festival later that evening. For more information, go here.
You are also invited to join us for the $100 Film Festival Closing Ceremonies and Wrap Party on Saturday March 6 after the last shorts program. The ceremonies will include the Award Presentations of beautiful sculptural trophies and cash prizes to five filmmakers. Both the final program and wrap party are rated 18A and will take place at the PLAZA Theatre.

Saturday April 10, Sunday April 11 10am -5pm
This two day workshop will examine the 5 W's (who, what, where, why, when) and the "HOW" of the motion picture camera, exposure calculation, lens and light filtration, and the simple basics of lighting. Topics will include how to operate, thread, and use entry level 16mm and Super 8 cameras, exposure calculation, and the use of camera filters and lighting gels. The emphasis is on encouraging participants to understand the film medium and its tools, so they can successfully photograph their first film.
Students will get hands on experience with the cameras, during the class 200’ of film will be shot under various lighting conditions. The class will reconvene at a later date to analyse and discuss their footage.
