Cinema Club – International Flavour: Japan

We watch a movie then discuss its history and cultural relevance. You do not need to have attended the other sessions to sign up.

This is part of our series International Flavour, where we select films from all over the world to watch, enjoy, and analyze. Subtitled Different Stories we will watch a film from 1950s Japan and then discuss how that country was host to a number of different auteurs who inspired later filmmakers from around the globe. We’ll pay special attention to how the camera is used and the impact of a certain early special effect.
